Mr. Murrja completed his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) at Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey, which is equivalent to a J.D. He furthered his education by earning an LL.M. Master’s Degree in International Commercial Law from the University of Tirana, Albania, and later pursued post-graduation studies in International and Comparative Law at the University of California San Diego (UCSD), San Diego, California.
Professionally, Mr. Murrja has been working as an Attorney at Law at Palmali Holding and Ketenci Law Office in Istanbul, Turkey. In this role, he has served as an in-house legal advisor to Palmali Holding, which incorporates more than 50 multinational companies across various industries. He has advised the company on several cross-border transactions and international finance matters, including project financings, acquisition financings, securities transactions, bond offerings, privatizations, international capital markets, banking, derivatives, and structured products both in Turkey and abroad. Additionally, Mr. Murrja has drafted loan documentation and security agreements, established various forms of securities, including pledges and mortgages, and coordinated with governmental authorities for fieldwork. His expertise extends to conducting due diligence on cross-border mergers and regulated sectors such as energy and insurance. Notably, he has also managed legal procedures for the purchase of over 10 aircraft and has facilitated transactions for building and acquiring vessels, establishing necessary security agreements along the way.
Mr. Murrja also worked as a consultant for E John Damasco Law Offices in San Diego, California, where he provided strategic business advice for a client’s expansion into the Turkish retail market. His responsibilities included conducting market and investment climate research and preparing investor presentations and memoranda. Prior to this, he worked as an Attorney at Law at AKS Law Firm in Istanbul. There, he advised both foreign and Turkish multinational companies on issues related to cross-border transactions, capital markets, foreign investments, energy projects, mergers & acquisitions, and corporate governance. He also led a large project involving the restitution of over 100 immovable properties for foreigners, aiming to return properties left behind by Balkan individuals to their heirs.
